Tainatar is a band formed in 2001 by Pekka Pitkäkoski
and Antti Polameri. Its original idea was to gather
together musicians connected by an interest of making
independent rhythmic music.
Stylistically the objective for Tainatar has been to
fuse together influences from rock, jazz, folk music
and art music. The basis of the band is rooted in a
rock-driven band lineup, where the pieces can be
carried out by the 5 musicians. There has been a
growing interest within the band to expand the
instrumentation towards a classical orchestral setup.
The lyrics have not lost the traditional narrative
character. To give a general characterization the
lyrics of Tainatar mirror their author's lyrical
world, where epochs and mystery coexist with the
phenomena of the familiar everyday world. The music of
Tainatar is meant to touch its makers first, and thus
any listener interested in genuine and more powerful
music.
